According to our sources, also confirmed by CNN, the US military officially opened a formal investigation in Cameroon on allegations of torture in a military base in Cameroon also used by US soldiers.
General Thomas Waldhauser, the head of the US troops command in Africa, is the one who initiated the investigation.
The investigation follows allegations of torture by Amnesty International in the fight against Boko Haram. The US military wants to know if its troops in Cameroon were aware of or participated in torture.
As a reminder, in 2015, US President Barack Obama had decided to send 300 American soldiers to Cameroon to help this Cameroon and its neighbors fight against the Boko Haram sect.
